This industrial character of this style, as its very name indicates, made it revolutionary in the 18th century. Travelling from Britain to the rest of the world, it was here to stay. Even when nearly everything is now the result of an industrial process. Its more or less spare, neutral and functional esthetic is especially in vogue owing to its sharply defined identity. Unquestionably masculine, it can cohabit with different rustic or decadent surroundings. It is decorative on its own without the need for ornament, and it exudes a strong cosmopolitan flavor
